I have been thinking about what our ultimate goal is as people. Is it to be rich? Is it to be healthy? Is it to be fit? Is it to be happy? It seems like happiness is the right answer. Happiness is really what we all want. I think that it goes further than that though. We can say to ourselves "I am happy" and have a great outlook on our life. But are we still happy if we find ourselves in an awkward social situation or if we are dealing with a tough problem at work? I think for the average person happiness is only experienced at certain times. Don't get me wrong some folks are more happy than others. I am talking about in general, happiness comes and goes. So in other words happiness is a by-product of something more.
What is that something more? I think it is along the lines of Absolute confidence. Being completely self assured. Believing that in any situation you will say or do the right thing. Where you will always rise to any level necessary. I know that all people make mistakes. All people have struggles in life. The successful ones act at a high level more often. It is being in the Zone, to use a sports phrase. We all have had moments where everything we said or did in that particular time seemed to be perfect. Whether it was a ten minute stretch in a pick up basketball game or talking to a pretty girl at a bar. You were on fire. Is it possible to achieve that level of Confidence and self-absurdness all the time or even most of the time? I think it is. That should be Our Ultimate Goal. It is mine.

How to Become More Sexy and Attractive
There is nothing more sexy and attractive to others than confidence. Something about a person that is sure of himself/herself is irresistible to people. As you know, your level of confidence changes from time to time. Sometimes it’s higher than normal. Sometimes it’s lower than normal. Most people do not have the “habit” of seeing value in situations that cause emotional pain. However, if you want to increase your confidence – and elevate it to new levels – you must become equipped with the ability to see “value” in all situations (especially the bad ones). So it is a matter of asking yourself, How can I learn from this experience? and How can this situation make me a better person? Some people allow situations to tear away their confidence for months or years. So when you are not feeling your best, think of all the reasons why you are thankful. Remember times when you felt great about yourself. Sit in meditation and just let go.
Why am I bringing this up on a Floatation blog? Earlier this week I had made a sale; along with it, a huge commission. Yesterday the person backed out of the deal which left me second guessing myself on the things that I could have done differently. I beat myself up pretty good for a few hours. As is my habit, I went into the float tank after work and just let go. I was able to visualize times I was at my best and the recent successful sales that I have made and the upcoming sales that I have in the pipeline. I let those feelings wash over me and let go. Knowing that I have let my intentions known to the Universe gave me a sense of peace. I have faith that my goals will come true with the proper focus and dedication. Sometimes challenges are what assists people to remain focused upon what is really important. For me, what really is important is knowing that abundance is all around us. There is no reason to be angry or afraid. Be confident. Have faith. Believe in yourself and the Universe.

Attraction to Floatation - Part II
To finish up on my attraction to floatation. In college I wrote a paper on Hypnosis. I did a lot of research on a guy named Edgar Cayce. His stories were fascinating to me at the time. He would go into a self-induced sleep and then talk about a persons past lives, health, business dealings, etc, etc. He was a pyschic of sorts. I wanted that ability, as ridiculous as it sounds now. So since then I have read all kinds of self help, meditation and philosophy. I have an English degree with a Philosophy minor. Most of my philosophy classes were about religion. I learned then that all religious people believe that they believe in the correct one. Understanding this lead me to think about how there is some truth to all of them. Most importantly that there is a God or Universal Mind that is all of us.
So in conclusion, I have researched many forms of meditation and positive thinking and the combination of the two. Back in the mid 90's my friend floated and explained how wonderful it was. At the time I was a poor college kid so I only did it a couple of times. It always struck me as an awesome tool. After I got a job and started making money I searched for places to float. There are no place to float in my area so I decided to get my own. So here I am now. An unwavering faith and belief in the Universe is what I am looking to attain through my floatation sessions. I catch glimpses of the feeling of absolute calm and peace. Much more now than I ever have before. Is it wrong to pursue perfection? "You are what you think about all day long." Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Attraction to Floatation - Part I
I received a comment (from Float First) on yesterday's blog post asking me to show a picture of my tank and talk about what attracted me to floating. I am not very tech savvy yet. Here is a picture of the kind of tank that I have. It is not a picture of the one in my apartment. I will get a smart phone eventually and download some pictures of mine.
I have been attracted to the powers of the mind for as long as I can remember. I read an article in a magazine when I was around 12 years old about lucid dreaming. I remember it suggested to "wake up" during waking hours and realize that you were not in a dream. It suggested to pinch yourself in these moments to prove you were awake. By making this a habit, the thought would eventually come to you in a dream. I can tell you it worked but it took a lot of effort to be consciously aware multiple times a day as a preteen. There is nothing cooler than being in a dream and knowing it. The feeling of "I can literally do anything I want" is powerful and very fleeting. I would wake up very quickly, only to find myself trying to get back to that place. It never did happen.
During the rest of my teen years I was always fascinated by Hypnosis. I laid in bed many nights "Self-Hypnotizing" myself. Counting down from ten, breathing and with each step and number I would "go down a step" until I got to the bottom. Hypnotized. It didn't dawn on me at the time I was actually meditating. The only difference I was trying to manifest some incredible experience that I couldn't put my finger on, rather than just calm my mind.
I will pick this up in my next blog post. I don't want to bore you to tears.

EXTRA, EXTRA - Floating Can Help You Overcome Pain
I had another great float last night. While in the tank my thoughts drifted to all of the great people that I have had the pleasure of coming in to contact with (via social media) since I have been documenting my daily floats. I can only hope that a few people that are not familiar with floating or REST read my blog and try to book a session with their local center. The more people that do it, will help to spread the word about how wonderful of an experience it truly is. It is very hard to put into words. It must be experienced.
Below is an excerpt from the introduction of The Book of Floating by Michael Hutchinson. Here he talks about what the research that was being done uncovered about floating and what he will go over in more detail in the body of the book. If you haven't already, go buy a copy of this book. It is worth it.
• About indications that floating stimulates the brain to secrete endorphins:
pain-killing, euphoria-creating substances known as the
"body's own opiates."
• That there is evidence that tank use not only can initiate substantial
weight loss but also has an unprecedented maintenance effect, with weight
loss continuing at the same degree for many months after floating.
• Of evidence that floating results in a spontaneous reduction in or
elimination of such habits as smoking, drinking, and drug use, and
counteracts addiction withdrawal symptoms.
• That laboratory studies show that floating can rapidly and significantly
decrease stress and anxiety, by sharply lowering the levels of
biochemicals directly related to stress, anxiety, tension, the "fight or
flight response," and heart disease and other stress-related illnesses.
• About indications that floating can suspend the dominance of the detail-
oriented left hemisphere of the brain, allowing the right hemisphere
(which deals with large-scale and novel information) to operate freely,
giving the floater access to unusual powers of creativity, imagination,
visualization, and problem solving.
• How athletes use flotation to improve their performance significantly,
to speed their recovery from the stress of peak output, and virtually to
eliminate fatigue and "post-race letdown."
• How flotation tanks are being used in schools and universities as tools
for "superlearning," increasing the mind's powers of comprehension,
retention, and original thinking.
• Of indications that two hours of floating are more restful and restorative
than a full night of sound sleep, making floating, in the words
of one prominent scientist, "a method of attaining the deepest rest that
we have ever experienced."
Having floated about 30 times so far in my life, I know these things to be true. If you suffer from Fibromyalgia or Migraines. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose except for the pain.

Gratitude and Intention
It has been over a month since I have been floating daily (give or take a day or two). The positive changes that I see are astonishing. The most important is my sense of well being. I no longer have the gnawing lump of anxiety in my gut. I have solid intentions and I am thankful for them. It has become my mission to be a Floatation advocate. There is just no disputing how much floatation can help us. The world is in turmoil. We need help. Floatation can help. There is a great website that I came across last night that I want to share. If nothing else we all need an attitude of gratefulness to get us through tough times. For most of us things could be worse. Think about the miracle of the Universe and be thankful for our existence.
Another great book I found and have been reading is The Science of Making Money. It is really great. You may have seen some Self Help Gurus selling their interpretation of it for like 2k. Here it is in it's original form. Basically the text tells you to visualize your intentions, put them out to the Universe and they will manifest themselves. Nothing new but the book was published in like 1910 so...it was newer then.
One last thing. Yesterday I was coming up with reasons floatation isn't more popular. I came up with another.
6. People are afraid of having the type of power/responsibility over their lives that floatation can provide. Most people want built in excuses to remain in their ruts. They want to believe that the Universe is against them. It is not.

Top Reasons Floatation Isn't More Popular
Last week I wrote a bit about Michael Hutchinson's, The Book of Floating. I had mentioned that reading the book caused me to wonder why floating isn't more popular. The book was written in the early 80's, almost 30 years ago. It was apparent that Hutchinson was convinced that it was going to become the wave of the future. It did not. I have been pondering this all weekend. Why? After doing some research I think I have come up with some reasons.
1. The people that were associated with floatation were also affiliated with Pyschedelic drugs.
2. Sensory Deprivation has misleading connotations that scares a large segment of the population.
3. The 80's were the "Greed is Good" decade. Most people were seeking and achieving material gains outside of themselves.
4. The A.I.D.S. epidemic was just starting to show itself. People were afraid of sanitation.
These are just a few that I have come up with. Again, my intention is to overcome these obstacles and bring floatation to the masses. It is the most incredible tool for whatever ails you. Drop me a message if you have any comments. I would love to get other people's perspective on this. There is no disputing Floatation's efficacy. There must be other reasons it has stayed a hidden secret all of these years.

The Book of Floating
Many years ago I read The Book of Floating, by Michael Hutchinson. Last night I found my old copy. During my float session last night it came to me to search for it and read it again. I found it and it is fantastic. Just reading the back cover alone would give anyone the excitement for floating. "Why isn't everyone trying to implement floatation into their lives", was the thought that came to my mind. This book was written in 1984 and Michael Hutchinson seems positively convinced that it is on the cusp of becoming a cultural phenomenon. It didn't. Why? The world would be a much more peaceful place if floatation was a regular routine in people's lives over the past thirty years.
"Promising not only profound relaxation, but also increased individual capabilities and fundamental changes in our way of life, the flotation tank has been found to have an astonishing range of educational and therapeutic uses, from problem solving and accelerated learning to weight reduction and the relief of arthritis and migraines." Michael Hutchinson
That is the first line of the back cover. Who is going to tell me that they don't want profound relaxation or increased individual capabilities? I say no body. I am not overweight or do I suffer from arthritis or migraines but I guarantee the people that do sure would like this benefit of floating.
Please follow my blog and help me get the word out to the world that Flotation Therapy is a real way to help ourselves to become better people, live a life pain free and free of stress.

Meditation Enhancement
I had a friend, that has been reading my blog posts, ask me yesterday why I talk about meditation so much. My answer was "Floatation is to Meditation as Gatorade is to Water." See, Gatorade and water do the same things. Mainly to hydrate the body. Gatorade has added electrolytes to help speed up hydration and it tastes better than water. Same with Floatation. It is much easier to get into a meditative state in a float tank than sitting still in a chair. It is also more soothing and enjoyable. It is a meditation enhancer. That is not even mentioning all of the other incredible benefits that floating provides. I talk about meditation because I know that most people do not have access to a float tank let alone one they can use every day. Mediation is a tremendous practice to help with a wide range of things, ie sports performance, stress management, creativity etc, etc. Floatation brings meditation to a whole other level in a shorter period of time. Begin to practice Meditation and soon you will have a CumulusFloats Center near you. As my intention is to open commercial Float Centers across the US:)

Staying Positive
I just got back from a week spent with the family for Thanksgiving. Why is it that spending time with family can be the most stressful of times? I love my family and due to my parents getting up in age I am moving so I can live closer to them BUT I am not used to the endless stream of questions that come when I am home for a few days. I am an independent person so I am out of my comfort zone when I am with a bunch of people at all times.
I haven't been able to get into the float tank or even be still in almost a week and I notice that the moments of awareness have lessened a bit. There were some debates with family when I noticed that I was getting agitated. I was able to take a step back and realize that I was reacting to a situation. I have been very conscientious not to react to things but to think and become aware, then to act on things. It is a growing process and I am so excited that becoming awake is the path that I am on.
All that being said I really enjoyed my time home. The food was fantastic. I ate way too much, watched way too much football and took far too many naps. Isn't that what Thanksgiving with family is all about? I say yes.
Food for thought. Check these two articles out.

Deliberate Intention
I have been floating almost everyday for 2+ weeks and I can't imagine it any other way. The moments of conscious awareness grow each day. There is a feeling I get where I don't react to things but that I am causing things to happen with my actions.
I have not posted a blog in a while for a great reason. I have been so much more focused on my job (which pays my bills but is 100% commission). I attribute this to my time in the float tank. I am no longer worried about where or when my next sale is coming from. The calls and the referrals that I am generating are coming in from unexpected places and that is a very good thing. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been meditating on and off for many years. Whenever I was consistent with my meditation my life seemed to get easier and more enjoyable, which would invariably cause me to skip meditation sessions and ultimately stop for long periods. It struck me the other day that when I become more "aware" or "awake" is when my job seems to become less like work. I act with deliberate intention on the tasks at hand and the money starts to come in. I know I need to continue to document my floats and my progress so that I don't forget or become unaware of the reasons that things are going better.
When we are more awake (through meditation) we become more in tuned with the Universe. Here is a great article I read that really hits it.

Say It Ain't So Joe
I am going to go a little off topic today.
As an Italian American that grew up in the northeast, I spent my Saturday afternoons in the Fall watching Penn State Football. Joe Paterno was/is revered in my household. I am truly saddened by what has happened these past few days. A truly great man has been fired (by phone no less) for the actions of another and perhaps his own inaction's. I am not going to get into what JoePa should or shouldn't have done. I just want people to realize that Jerry Sandusky is the perpetrator of these horrific crimes against children not Joe Paterno. For all of this to fall at the feet of a man that lived his entire life by a code of honesty and integrity sickens me. Please look at all of the good that he has accomplished in his 80+ years of life and ask yourself "is this a man that maliciously protected a sexual predator?" I say no. The Huffington Post has a great article.
Our society really needs to stop hating on those that do not deserve it. FLOATING is going to bring us back to love.

Floatation Therapy = More Energy
The most significant affect that I have noticed during my week plus of regular floating has been the extra energy that I seem to have. I bolt out of bed now at 6am and get right into a routine. I have had great energy in the gym during my workouts and hardly seem to realize it is before 7am. Which was my wake up time not too long ago. Here is a meditation technique that I use in the float tank.
Two great points in the article are not to get discouraged when your mind wanders and be consistent with it. Meditation is something that has to be practiced regularly. I believe that Floatation Therapy is a tremendous way to kick start a meditation regimen. Your ability to relax and calm your mind in the tank far exceeds that of when you are sitting on your couch. If you would like to start meditating or have been and want to kick start your mind into going deeper, check to see if there are any Float Centers in your area. After that initial float session your ability to relax and calm your mind will be greatly enhanced. Check it out and let me know how it works for you. @cumulusfloats on Twitter and/or Facebook.

Amazing Weekend
I had an unplanned trip over the weekend. I was all ready to get into my float tank on Friday after getting out of work early and I received a phone call from my beautiful friend Theresa. Theresa is a woman that I see occasionally but I haven't seen or spoken to her in a few weeks so when I saw the call coming in I had to take it. She asked me if I would like to go to the mountains with her to go for a hike and spend some time with her in her mountain home for the weekend. "Yes please", was my response. So I had to forgo my floats for the weekend to do a different kind of relaxing.
The weekend was filled with hiking in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains, bottles of wine and great food. By the way I am a tremendous cook. I made Theresa Chicken Francese, with sauteed spinach and a mushroom risotto on Saturday night after a long hike up Mount Mitchell. Major points for me on that one. Sunday we were a bit tired from the hike and the wine so we strolled Asheville for a few hours before heading home. It was a great weekend. A weekend that I didn't mind missing a few floats for. Theresa, more than once asked me why I was in such a good mood. Of course my response was that I was enjoying my time with her but secretly I knew that was only part of it. My attitude and outlook have improved in every situation that I find myself in.
The experiences hiking were different from any that I have done in the past. The colors of the trees were so vivid. The smells were so sweet. The air and breeze were energizing. I was truly happy in those moments.
After work yesterday I was eager to get my float in and boy was it tremendous. The soreness in my legs noticeably melted away as I visualized the wonderful experience of the weekends events. After about 10 minutes my mind quieted down and I was able to let go and just breathe. The experience of being in a float tank is different from every other experience that you can have. The only thing you feel is your heart beating. The only thing you hear is your breathing. It is an incredible thing that the world should practice regularly.

After about 10 minutes my mind quieted down and I was able to let go and just breathe. The experience of being in a float tank is different from every other experience that you can have. The only thing you feel is your heart beating. The only thing you hear is your breathing. It is an incredible thing that the world should practice regularly.

How To Get Positive Results From Meditation in Half the Time
My time in my tank has been wonderful. I am noticing the minor aches and pains that I associated with getting older are slowly dissipating. My skin and hair feel great too. Epsom Salt is really something. Not only the way I feel physically is improving by day but my attitude and outlook on my life has picked up immensely. I have not smiled this much for as long as I can remember. My mission in life is to get the entire world to float regularly.
I found a great article about Steve Jobs' spirituality on USA Today. It was tweeted by someone I follow, @Meditation_Hive. Check it out.

About Me
So I guess I will tell you about me a bit. I am single guy in his thirty's living alone. I work at a job that has good and bad days, months and years. There is no real future growth with my organization. All anyone wants is to be truly happy and my life as it is right now isn't true happiness. Happiness is a state of mind I know. I feel like there is more out there for me and my mission, my destiny is to find it. My float tank is my tool to find that happiness. To find what possibilities are out there for me and all of us.
I had another great experience last light. I find myself excited to get home from work to get in my float. I have practiced meditation in the past but have since gotten out of the habit. I find my time in the tank helps me to get into a very deep state quickly. I concentrate on my breathing and just let go. For those of you that don't know a Float Tank is a pool of water that is supersaturated with Epsom Salt. It is completely dark, sound proof and at a perfect temperature (around 93 degrees). When you get into the tank and lay back you immediately float like a cork due to the salt water (think of the Dead Sea). While in there you cannot feel anything, see anything or hear anything. Every sense shuts off except for your mind. You float like a cloud all stress dissipates and you are there with just your thoughts.

Figuring It Out
I woke up at 6am this morning after getting a great nights sleep. It was the first time in a very long while that I was able to actually sleep through the night without waking up multiple times. I got out of bed immediately and went for a half hour walk. It was a little cold out but it felt great. I have decided to float for an hour after work and before dinner. My mood has improved significantly so far.
I have in the past done a lot of things to improve myself. 1. Quit smoking 2. Reduced my alcohol consumption 3. Exercised regularly 4. Gotten out of bed early 5. Stopped watching TV 6. Read a lot, etc, etc. All of these things at one time or another have fallen by the wayside. It is my mission to gradually implement all of these things back into my daily routine. Consistency is the key. All great men have had discipline and consistency in their lives. I want to be disciplined and consistent. I am confident that floating will help me get there.

Better than Expected
I finally got my Float Tank up and running. It has been a process. It has been costly. It has been better than expected.
The tank I purchased is used and it works perfectly so far. The Epsom Salt came last week and this morning was the first chance I had to get in and relax. I have floated a few times in the past and it was fantastic. Knowing now that I have one of my own in my spare bedroom just makes it more amazing.
I am an avid reader of psychology/self help and although I have learned so much about myself and human potential nothing seemed to keep me falling back into old routines and habits. I believe that there is greatness out there for all of us. I will document my journey to ultimate personal achievement with my Float Tank as my tool, here. Join me.
